is there anything more tiring than kids?
is there anything more exciting than outside?
is there anything greater than friends who have their shit together?
is there anything greater than friends?
is there anything more metaphorical than a mountain?

L and I had an amazing weekend in the mountains, with friends. Not new friends, but getting-to-know-better friends, and it was spectacular fun. This is going to be a fun summer.

This weekend
This weekend we:
+ Went to gymnastics
+ Had a midmorning snack with friends
+ Went on the Farm Tour
+ Finally dusted off the DSLR
+ I *gasp* went out saturday night, which was an adventure in itself
+And today, I made Lena cry while watching Mulan. It got a little emotional for her. So we're back to watching Cars 2.
Hope everyone had a great weekend. :)

Makings of a good weekend
I'm looking forward to this weekend. I'm sort of counting as it starting today.
I'm going with Aspen and Jack to see Ben Sollee in Raleigh, which is remarkable, because it means that Aspen and I have seen Ben Sollee in every concert that he's played in the Triangle, for the past four years (Cat's Cradle, the Casbah, and now Kings), since we discovered him playing with Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow Quartet in Memorial Hall.
Needless to say, it was swoon at first listen.
It's also Mother's day, which I'm usually more or less not a big fan of because what's the point, I'm a mom every day, but this year I got myself something wonderful, and I'll share that here then, and my mom and I had the wonderful idea that we would go for a hike in the morning, and then go shopping in the afternoon. A wonderful day of mothers indeed!
Ok, some more music for your Thursday.

Insta-weekend
Then I made a Hunger Games t-shirt.
And then I cleaned my room and am still debating whether or not to throw away this doll.
Wow I am just a picture of maturity.
Also when Lena sleeps in my bed, I always want to do funny things to bother her, but instead I just stay in bed too long watching her sleep. And taking pictures.

Out of our league
Today Alex and I decided we needed a hobby that included cardiovascular activity.
So we went out this morning...and bought inline hockey skates.
I got a Mario Lemieux stick, which is going to make me play like Mario Lemieux, natch. (Alex is going to be Sidney Crosby.) Both of us realized that the image in our heads of how good of skaters we are does not match reality. This should be fun. (I'm currently watching youtube videos on how to stop.) This should be interesting. And fun.
Later, Lena attended a princess party.
She decorated a crown.

Then she had her picture taken with Belle.
Oh, and I also experienced the question "Oh, so you work?" for the first time.
Yep, out of our leagues.

Good Weekend
Easy weekend, Lena was fully recovered from being sick last week, I got a lot of writing in (I'm doing Nanowrimo this year), fun time with the entire family at the NC Museum of Art, for brunch and the Rembrandt exhibit.
If only, if only, the weekends were longer.
